9. निर्जरा भावनाः Shedding of karma

निर्जरा भावनाः

ज्ञान-दीप तप-तैल भर, घर शौधे भ्रम छोर,

या विध बिन निकसै नहीं, बैठे पूरब चोर ॥

पंच महाव्रत संचरन, समिति पंच परकार ।

प्रबल पंच इंद्रिय-विजय, धार निर्जरा सार ॥


Nirjara Bhavna – Shedding of karma
      Under this reflection, one thinks about the evil consequences of
      karma, and striving to destroy the previously acquired karma by
      austerity and meditation.

  1. Destroying one’s acquired Karma very important step in journey of attaining Moksha. However, it is far from a simple process. Can you add one article to describe how one can effectively destroy one’s acquired Karma by austerity, meditation and other means. It will benefit a lot.

    • I would like to add few things related to nirjara bhavna.

      સમિતિ પાંચ પ્રકારની છે.

      1. ઇરિયા સમિતિ,
      2. ભાષા સમિતિ,
      3. એષણા સમિતિ,
      4. આદાન-પ્રદાન સમિતિ,
      5. પારિષ્ઠાપનિકા સમિતિ.

      પાંચ મહાવ્રત આ પ્રકારે છે.

      1. સર્વ પ્રાણાતિપાત (Violence) વિરમણ,
      2. સર્વ મૃષાવાદ (Untruth) વિરમણ,
      3. સર્વ અદ્ત્તાદાન ( Theft)વિરમણ,
      4. સર્વ મૈથુન (Unchaste behaviour)વિરમણ,
      5. સર્વ પરિગ્રહ (Possessiveness) વિરમણ.

      પાંચ ઇદ્રિંયો વિશે તો તને ખ્યાલ છે જ.

  2. Hi Uday,

    Thanks for visiting my blog. Austerity is again very broad topic. I read one book few months back written by one digmbar sadhviji ma.sa. (Written many years ago about austerity). Where in she has described 14 ways to perform austerity. (It is always not necessary to do fasting to perform austerity). I will try to write an article sometime for sure. But before then that, I guess we need to understand our negative emotions. I mean according to me….if we perform austerity we should be aware about what emotions we want to destroy from our self. So that while doing fast we can meditate on those feelings easily. Because when we do fasting it really helps body and mind to meld the way we want and if we are not aware of our goal then we can use that generated power in wrong way which can destroy many things.
